March 27th Support Group Meeting With spring in the air, it is time to make sure that our homes are safe. We are pleased to have Rebuilding Together at our meeting this month to help us in this important project. This nonprofit organization has had over 40 years of experience in safe and healthy housing. It is a volunteer organization and funded by a variety of private and county resources. The date of the meeting will be next Thursday, March 27 th at the Dante Club 2330 Fair Oaks Blvd. Sacramento. The doors open at 9:30 AM with the meeting beginning at 10AM. LET THE FUN BEGIN Thanks to a beautifully written article by Barbie and KelliAnn, our outstanding social committee, our Support Group was selected to receive a $1500 grant from the St. Michael's Episcopal Church. Now we face the wonderful task as to how to best utilize this generous gift. Please share any ideas you may have about how to best spend this grant. If you would like to respond to this email I would be happy to share your ideas or you can do so yourself at the meeting. We are just getting ideas at this time and plan to only spend a few minutes on this topic. No final decisions are going to be made on Thursday but we did want to make sure that everyone had a chance to share their ideas. Below is the article that was submitted by our talented social committee AND FINALLY The University of San Francisco is doing a clinical study on depression and Parkinson's. Information can be found on our website under resources. Although the study does require a trip to San Francisco for some of the tests, the study will be providing hotel accommodations if necessary. The article submitted by Barbie and KelliAnn We could not be more excited or honored to be able to be receiving these funds. Our support group is like a family, we see each other every month and we always do introductions to get to know each other on a deeper level. Such as what is your favorite dessert, movie, flower, etc. This is a way for us to connect more than just the Parkinson's disease. We also get to know each other by meet your member which is 100% voluntary but is a book we have containing a picture of our members and fun fact details on each one. We will definitely be using these funds for our holiday party. Every year we try to do something fun for the holidays and it is not just the members who come but also their loved ones whether it be their grandkids or children and we even have had people bring their neighbors. We make hand made prizes such as ornaments to house decorations every year to raffle off and we also carol. These funds will be a tremendous help to bring happiness to our members who face difficulties every day but still manage to come once a month to get the support they need. We can also use the funds to help provide the items we raffle off each month which is just to bring a smile to our members faces at no cost to them. It can also help us try and dedicate once a quarter to have cognitive games and activities which are essential for Parkinson's patients to partake in. |
